Review Peter Mckinnon x James Coffee Co

Hey Everyone

I hope you’re good.

Here’s my review of ‘Golden Hour’ by Peter Mckinnon and James Coffee Co enjoy.

Peter Mckinnon x James Coffee Co

My last coffee post, exploring some of Bristol’s Best Coffee Beans was really well recieved, so I’ve decided to do this review post of the Peter Mckinnon X James Coffee Co beans.

As many of you will know Peter Mckinnon is a bit of a photography legend and runs one of the most upbeat Youtube channels around. I’ll often put on one of his videos if I feel in need a bit of photography inspiration. He’s also a massive coffee lover, and it’s really cool to see he’s collaborated with San Diego based James Coffee Co to produce the bespoke ‘Golden Hour Blend’.

My Thoughts

As I couldn’t find a UK reseller, this coffee works out quite expensive due to the shipping costs, luckily I teamed up with a fellow creative to split the costs and we both ordered a bag.

So the question is, what’s the coffee like and was it worth the shipping costs?

The short answer is, yes, most definitely.

Salt Caramel Goodness

The bean is a nice light omni-roast, which means it can be brewed via many different methods, and it’s really good to see the back of the packaging has detailed instructions for each brew method.

I’ve tried it as espresso, v60 and also using my aeropress in the woods - all producing tasty results via the included instructions. There’s lovely subtle berry notes on the first sip and then this really unusual taste of salted caramel at the end. It works really well and I’ve found it to be amazing. The only problem I have is that the bag has almost gone.

The Dream

It got me thinking and dreaming, in a similar fashion I’d love to work with a local coffee roaster to produce a bespoke blend of my own - perhaps one day I could find a way to make this dream a reality.

I hope you found this coffee review useful, I’d love to know your thoughts in the comments below, are you thinking of buying a bag for yourself?

I’ll leave you with a few images I took of the coffee during some appropriately timed golden hour light.

Until next time, take it easy,
Edd
